Through ĀWHINA we have combined our individual organisations and service scope to offer a wider range of support: he whare tāngata ki te whare o ngā Atua. While the key Pou that ĀWHINA will align to is Strengthening Cultural Identity and Kaupapa (as demonstrated in the image below), the services available through ĀWHINA is able to be aligned to all 5 POU.
Whānau are the holder of their tāngata kōrero, ĀWHINA is the waka that allows them to navigate through the code. To keep their kōrero safe they store it in the WAKA HUIA that is encompassed by our korowai. ĀWHINA supports whānau towards long-term intergenerational healing. Our Pit to the Paepae gives whānau the Kāwanatanga (authority) of their korowai - rākau (service tree), me Waka Huia. ĀWHINA is for ngā whānau katoa (unconditional). With ĀWHINA our Pit to Paepae model of support enables whānau to create their own pathway to success, now and well into the future.
This is the framework that ĀWHINA will operate within, which clearly illustrates how we will incorporate whānau voice into the roll out of ĀWHINA across our rohe.
To support whānau to make positive change ĀWHINA can connect whānau to their marae, hapū, and iwi.
ĀWHINA whānau will look within themselves for the teachings that lay in them that have been passed down through their own whakapapa. When whānau are ready to take the first step into ĀWHINA it will be because whānau are giving the permission for their space to begin its healing.

Te Kaha o te Whānau (Manurewa Marae, Mahi Tahi Trust, Friendship house) TM. The banquet of support offered comes in many ways, ĀWHINA encourages whānau to take what they need rather than the adage (survival of the fittest), whānau will have the mana through ĀWHINA to take what they need so they are not always in survival mode. ĀWHINA supports whānau with trauma, healing and recovery, the way forward is initiated when whānau decide to create change for themselves, this will then set in motion the cascade of intergenerational changes. With the natural alignment of ĀWHINA this will reinforce and support whānau to create healthy relationships and produce opportunities to create an environment that’s conducive of wholesome health and purposeful Tohunga Kōrero.
